If you don’t have health insurance through your employer, and you need to purchase an individual policy for 2017, now is the time to do it.
To have coverage on January 1st, you must enroll before December 15th, 2016. Open enrollment lasts until January 31, 2017, but if you apply after December 15th, 2016 your coverage will start later than January 1st.
If you choose not to purchase health insurance, you may be required to pay a penalty by the government. Learn more about penalties here.
You can find out if you qualify for a subsidy to help cover the cost of health insurance by going to healthcare.gov and using the subsidy calculator.
If you do qualify for a subsidy, sign up online using healthcare.gov.
If not, it is much more convenient to call a local agent to assist you with finding the best individual health insurance plan to fit your needs. We recommend choosing an independent agency that can quote prices from several different insurance companies to find you the best deal, rather than a captive agent who only represents one company. Choosing a local agent also provides you with face-to-face customer service representatives who can talk you through the process of applying for health insurance, help you choose the policy with the best benefits for the price, and who will be there to assist you in the event you need help filing claims.
Of course, we hope you will choose us here at Barry Insurance to be your local independent insurance agent. We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, and work hard to take care of our customers and provide them with the best possible insurance experience.
