Do you have a baby on the way?
September is National Baby Safety Month, and we’d like to send a friendly reminder to families out there who are expecting a little one to update your insurance policies to include coverage for the new addition to your family as soon as your new child is born.
While each insurance company is different, most often you will be required to call the insurance company within a few days of your baby’s birth to have him or her added to your plan. Check with your insurance agent, or your HR department if you have health insurance through your employer, to get the details of the process for your particular insurance company and to find out how your insurance rates will change after the baby’s birth.
If your child is born in a hospital, the hospital staff should automatically apply for your child’s social security number, and the number should be given to you before you leave the hospital. Most insurance companies will ask for your child’s social security number (SSN), date of birth (DOB), and full legal name in order to be added to your policy.
If you have a little one on the way, give us a call to make sure s/he is fully covered from the start!
